Pain
Chronic pain is caused by a number of conditions. People with pain that persists for longer than two weeks can qualify for cannabis if other treatments fail to relieve their pain.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
PTSD causes a variety of symptoms, including anxiety and depression. Cannabis can help to relieve these and other symptoms of PTSD, like insomnia and nightmares.
Persistent Nausea
Nausea is often a side effect of chemotherapy treatments, as well as a symptom of many other health problems. Cannabis can help to reduce nausea, calm the digestive system, and promote appetite.
Terminal Illness & Conditions Requiring Hospice Care
People with a life expectancy of less than six months and those in hospice care can qualify for Medical Marijuana for a variety of conditions, including those that are not otherwise listed as qualifying.
Cancer
Cancer is caused by abnormal cell growth. Research indicates that cannabis may be able to slow the growth of certain kinds of tumors, and relieve the side effects of radiation and chemotherapy treatments, like nausea and loss of appetite.
Crohn’s Disease & Ulcerative Colitis
These two inflammatory bowel disorders can cause severe pain and disruption of the digestive system. Cannabis has anti-inflammatory and antibiotic effects that can relieve symptoms, and reduce the severity of flare-ups.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
Multiple Sclerosis is a progressive neurological disorder that causes problems with movement, balance, and speech. Cannabis has neuroprotective properties that can reduce the severity of symptoms, and protect neural pathways from inflammation.
Epilepsy & Seizure Disorders
Epilepsy is a term for a variety of seizure disorders caused by abnormal electrical signaling in the brain. Cannabis can help to regulate the brain’s electrical activity, and protect neurological pathways from damage.
Autism
Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder, is a complex neurological condition caused by abnormal neurological development in the brain. Cannabis can relieve autism symptoms, such as anxiety, repetitive behaviors, and sleep problems.
Muscle Spasms
Muscle spasms are often a symptom of conditions such as ALS and multiple sclerosis. Patients with debilitating muscle spasms qualify for Medical Marijuana in Utah.
HIV/AIDS
The human immunodeficiency virus, or HIV, compromises a person’s immune system and can progress to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, or AIDS. Cannabis can support the immune system and relieve symptoms, such as loss of appetite and weight loss.
Rare Conditions
People with extremely rare diseases with limited treatment options can also qualify for Medical Marijuana by petitioning the Compassionate Use Board for approval.
Cachexia
Cachexia is a condition that leads to extreme weight loss and muscle wasting in diseases, like cancer, HIV/AIDS, and multiple sclerosis. Cannabis affects processes relating to appetite and weight gain, so it can help to slow the progression of cachexia from these and other diseases.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS)
ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a progressive neurological disorder with few treatment options. Cannabis can help to protect nerves and relieve symptoms, including muscle spasticity.
Alzheimer’s Disease
Alzheimer’s Disease is a type of dementia caused by the accumulation of plaque and protein tangles in the brain. Cannabis can help protect neural pathways in the brain and relieve symptoms, like memory loss and confusion.
